birdwatching: music

I will once again be providing background music for my church's spaghetti dinner this Friday from 5:00 until about 7:00. See the flyer for details.

In other music news, Amy King and I have put together about 50 minutes' worth of music for the season of Lent, in a program we're calling Hosanna! Much of it is choral or piano music that I have adapted and arranged for violin and piano, including the title song based on the hymn "Hosanna, Loud Hosanna." We have a great combination of upbeat, majestic, relaxed, and fun music with an Easter theme. Admission is free and open to the public. We'll be taking a free-will offering and donating the funds to the church, plus we'll have snacks afterward, but we're really just doing this for the fun of it.

Also check out the full-page flyer I put together tonight, and thanks to fellow graphic designer Jason Smith for his feedback on this one (so if there's anything you don't like about it, blame him... meh heh heh). I'll make a color flyer later, but I had to get this one ready for the church newsletter.

Hope to see you there!

Edited to add: I've developed a color version of the flyer. I just wish I had a better inkjet at home.

I used to go to a UCC church. Until some Billy Graham / Pat Robertson dude took it over.

That almost happened at my church too, but luckily the ministerial search committee realized we weren't the fire & brimstone type.

Dude seriously, that minister made a gay joke right in the sermon. Along with the usual "Harry Potter is teh evil" stuff. Oh and let's not forget the priceless "instead of Harry Potter, send your kids to see The Hobbit this year, because Tolkein was a Christian"... never mind that it was Lord of the Rings, not The Hobbit, and regardless, both are filled with just as much wizardry and magic as the Potter series. *sigh*

Yeah, but you see, it doesn't matter what the content is, it matters who wrote it. Well, a practicing Christian wrote it, so it must be wholesome. People like Pat Robertson and that other big fat biggot are just as sensationalist as Howard Stern. But rather than Howard, their goal isn't to give you a high hard one, it's to make you afraid of popular culture. And to posess the Repubican party. Where's an old priest and a young priest when you need them? I'm tellin' ya, sprinkle some holy water on Pat Robertson, he'll melt like the Wicked Witch of the West.

F! Thanks, Mr. Blame Jason! If I weren't an all-powerful graphics editor (stifles laugh) and you a lowly flyer-maker, I might just say something mean!

I don't think I ever knew how musical you are when we were at BG. That rocks!
So, I'm living in Broadview Heights now and I seriously miss singing in quality groups. Know of any good ones around the area that I might be able to join??

But of course. :) I'm currently accompanist for the Cleveland Athletic Club Singers. I haven't yet figured out exactly why they have a choir, other than to sing the national anthem once a year, but we have a good time and they pay me well so who cares. I think it's currently $15/month to have a social/choir only membership, which just gets you in the door and gives you a number to use at the bar (which we patronize after every rehearsal).

We only have two concerts a year, in December and May, and rehearse on Mondays from 6-7:30 p.m. So it's not a big commitment, but we have a pretty good group (and you'll get to meet some of my "taco buddies").

If you're interested, let me know, since I'll have to let the receptionist know who you are. The building is downtown, 1118 Euclid, and you can park across the street in the Statler Arms garage.

So... soprano or alto? :)

Oh! And how could I forget: most importantly, we also sing the Star-Spangled Banner at Jacobs Field once a year. That's usually what gets people into the group initially. :)

That sounds perfect! With all the lovely outside-of-work time that teaching requires, a group that doesn't meet/perform too often is just what I'm looking for (that was my problem with the Columbus Symphony Chorus, great choir, but hard for me to commit to.)
Anyway, in my life I've sung Sop 1, Sop 2, Alto 1, Alto 2 and Tenor 1. Let's just say I have a pretty big range and can read music well, so I usually get stuck in wherever I'm needed :)
Send me an email with more info!(fraulein52380....at yahoo) I'm excited!
