onward hooooooooooo
At long last, all you fine blog readers will get to hear me sing. It wasn't until just recently that I thought I had a voice worthy of solo singing (although I could blend fine in a choir), but largely thanks to preparing this song for an audition, I believe my voice has matured.
On YouTube I've posted a video of me performing "Into the Fire" from The Scarlet Pimpernel (by Nan Knighton and Frank Wildhorn) at the Elyria Musical Art Society's Ice Cream Social this past June. I don't like my voice so much at the very beginning, but it gets better when the tempo picks up. The accompaniment is a recording of me playing it on my digital piano.

What a fine voice you have, Bryan! Honestly. Wish I could have heard you in the Summer Theater production. Did you fun with that?
Yeah, it was nice getting to sing again. I also wanted to see how another music director handled things before I did it myself again. As it turned out, Mike didn't really do anything differently than I would have, so I guess it more validated my methods than taught me anything. :)
However, one reason I opted not to music direct this show -- aside from wanting to audition -- is that I don't know how to teach kids. The kids learned their music mostly at separate rehearsals, so I didn't get to observe how Mike did it.
It was also a bit of an ego boost since so many people complimented my voice. I still don't really have enough stage presence to pull off a part though, yet.
Also, the director, Mo, loves me and wants me to audition for her next show. I'm not sure the timing will work with my schedule though... we'll see.
