showing off the new piano

One nice thing about having a digital piano is that I can record directly into my computer and don't have to worry about room noise. To give you an idea of how awesome this thing sounds, here are a few excerpts of me playing (and by the way, the first three are accompaniment parts, so don't expect to hear a melody):
  • "All the Wasted Time" (from the musical Parade, by Jason Robert Brown -- this is using the "natural piano" voice) [312 KB]
  • "Moving Too Fast" (from the musical The Last Five Years, also by Jason Robert Brown -- this is using the "bright piano" voice) [296 KB]
  • "Summer in Ohio" (also from The Last Five Years -- also using the "bright piano" voice) [592 KB]
  • "Theme from Prince of Tides" (by James Newton Howard, arranged by Lorie Line -- this is using the "elegant piano" voice, and I'll be playing it at my brother's wedding with this keyboard) [328 KB]
  • "Welcome to Jurassic Park" (from Jurassic Park, by John Williams -- this is using the "bright piano" voice) [440 KB]

I admit that the piano sounds wonderful, and the different voices give each song great color, but I'm thinking the person playing might have something to do with how good everything sounds. Just a guess. :0)

Heh, thanks. Hopefully you can sense my modesty from the fact that I allowed myself to upload "Moving Too Fast" and "Summer in Ohio" even though they're far from polished. :) JRB stuff is fun to play though, even if it is quite challenging.

Is it possible to purchase a Bryan Bird cd?

Now that I have this piano, a CD may be in the works. My issue is that it would be expensive to get permission to record copyrighted songs for a CD I'm just going to make at home and sell less than 1,000 copies of. The way around that is either to write my own songs (which I'm not that adept at) or record public domain works. I'm better as an arranger than a composer, so I may make a CD of Christmas carol arrangements. Ragtime would be another option, although it's more difficult to play on a hammerless keyboard such as this (because the keys don't spring back fast enough).

This is also why I only put samples of these other songs up here, at pretty low quality... at least until ASCAP's lawyers bust down my door. :)
