blood test results
I got a letter from my doctor today, which is good since I couldn't remember exactly what she had said over the phone. I don't have the actual numbers, but basically it said:
- slightly elevated alkaline phosphatase, possibly related to bone growth (no surprise; it's been that way ever since I started getting annual physicals in 2000)
- urinalysis showed trace amounts of protein
- sedimentation rate was elevated
- blood count showed no anemic and a normal white count
- low percentage of lymphocytes
So basically that all means, wait for the biopsy. :) And just for comparison, the blood test I had in 2002 showed a slightly elevated alkaline phosphatase and a "lower than we'd like" good-cholesterol level as the only oddities.

Good luck to you, Bryan. Any friend of Tom's has to be good people, so I'm sure you'll make it through A OK. I'll be sure my family includes you in the endless string of Thanksgiving dinner "Please..."s and "Thank you for..."s :)

hi Bryan,
I don't know you, but your condition seems similar to something i had in july... i'd had this lump just above my collarbone for years (i can actually see the progression of its growth over the years in photos from ages 20-29)... i didn't think anything of it, really. i'd had it so long that it just seemed a part of me, you know?
anyhoo.
i had a biopsy done (hurt like hell) and the results came back inconclusive. much blood work and more frustrating test results later, i finally opted to have the lump removed. a further biopsy determined that i didn't have cancer of the thyroid (so they wouldn't have to go back in and remove it), just a mass of non-cancerous tissue.
i'm under medical surveillance, so to speak, and have to meet with an E N T specialist to ensure that the growth doesn't re-occur.
i dunno if this helps, but i just wanted to let you know that you're not alone. i kind of know what you're going through. i hope it's nothing (my aunt who's a nurse says that the kind of growth i had is fairly common), and that you'll be fine.
good luck!
Well, Bryan, as you know, we Mancines don't pray (not sure anyone is up there listening and all that) but be assured that we are all sending positive thoughts your way. tomsmom
Not a problem; one message board I frequent uses "mojo," which is sort of like "thoughts & prayers" or "good vibes" or other things along those lines. So you can just send some medical mojo if you wish. :)
